Following The New Golden Age one-shot, Geoff Johns returns to his fan-favorite character, Stargirl, as part of his grand revival of the Justice Society of America. This long awaited story has fans rustling, wondering where the story will lead and how it will impact the DC Universe as a whole—and what role will the lost children play. The answers begin here in Stargirl: The Lost Children #1.
If you did not read “Stargirl: Spring Break Special”, you may have been lost at the beginning of #1 of this Stargirl series, but Geoff made the comic as accessible as possible, leaving editors notes and having Courtney give exposition.

Wing—a former sidekick and member of the Seven Soldiers of Victory, is considered missing. Courney and Emiko (Red Arrow) have been trying to find him, but Pat Dugan (S.T.R.I.P.E.) and Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) have seemingly closed the case and agree Wing is not in danger.
Meanwhile, Dan the Dyna-Mite, the former sidekick of the golden age hero TNT, narrates his part in the story. He reminiscences on the past, thinking about sidekicks—specifically about being the first sidekick to lose his mentor. It becomes clear the focus is on sidekicks, especially sidekicks who vanished mysteriously; sidekicks who need to be saved; sidekicks who history has forgotten.

The issue ends with Dan the Dyna-Mite returning to an island which seemingly bears a deal of significance—though the audience is still clouded in mystery. As Dan realizes the age of sidekicks is truly over, he is revealed to be young again! As young as when he was a sidekick! The issue concluded with an ominous voice warning, “you shouldn’t have come here”. An interesting setup for the 6-issue series.
Of course, the Star Spangled Kid will play a part in this along with Pat. (If you know, you know). There are brave possibilities at play. While the CW’s Stargirl tv series has been canceled, the legacy of Courtney Whitmore continues in the pages of her own mini-series, “Stargirl: The Lost Children”.
