Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #6 by Josh Trujillo Review
*This article contains spoilers for Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #6 (2023)*
The spectacular conclusion to Blue Beetle: Graduation Day (2023) is here! This series has been a great ride, one which has reinvigorated Blue Beetle while also reinvigorating my love for the character. It has had tense moments, balanced nicely with lighthearted artwork. This is the definitive Blue Beetle run—one which should be read before seeing the upcoming Blue Beetle film!
The Horizon have emerged, but they are far from the force everyone thought they might be. Instead of invading Earth, they are crash landing and heading straight for Palmara City! Batman’s team, who were formerly against Blue Beetle, are enlisted to help save the plummeting ship and space debris it is bringing with it.

Using all of his power—including the energy which powers his life support systems—Jaime pushes the ship off course with his sonic cannon so it can land safely in the bay and not the city. It is Superman who catches him.

As the Horizon introduce themselves, it is revealed the purpose of the new beetles was to scout—to learn the language and customs of people on Earth. They are delighted to see the Green and Yellow Beetles, but are enraged by the presence of Blue Beetle. They doubt the Blue Beetle could defy its programming—forgetting they had done the same. After Superman vouches for Blue Beetle, The Horizon believe.

The Horizon reveal they are ready to stop running from The Reach and are ready to find a permanent home. Jessica Cruz offers to involve the Green Lantern Corp, but Jaime declines. He believes The Horizon to be his responsibility. He knows what it’s like to be scared and alone. Though it is Victoria Kord who solidifies the deal, by offering to feed and house and guide them. A true hero.
The issue ends with Jaime mentioning all his new friends and family who will have his back. It ends with a teaser, “To be continued in Blue Beetle: Scarab War #1”. It looks like this story is far from over!

This series has been a great story. It feels like Blue Beetle is often overlooked, though he has huge potential. This story proves Blue Beetle is strong enough to hold his own title, while also having diverse supporting characters. Overall, a great step forward. Highly recommend!
Rating: 4/5 Stars. Though it does not end with the arrival of The Reach as everyone thought it would, the introduction of The Horizon is a great building block in a future war against The Reach. It’s a great setup—but it feels strong as a narrative on its own, rarely does the reader realize the structure that is being built for the future.
